The video works and installations by UDC are rooted in a strong tradition of happening and performance. Segers graduated as a sculptor at the Fine Art Department, and started doing occasional performances and happenings throughout his career. He has always approached his video-work from a sculptural angle. Through the years, the video's have become less 'pure' performance-based registrations and more independent narrative shorts, shown separately or in a multi-screen setup. Storytelling has always been a part of Segers' works in various media, but with video he finds all his interests combined in one medium. These works are mostly shown in Art exhibitions, but have recently been shown as shorts in cinematic settings.

The Desert Here and the Desert Far Away (2024, Teaser!!) - is a video triptych / video installation that premiered at the GAFA Art Museum in Guangzhou, CN, on October 14th 2024 as part of the solo exhibition The Scene Changes. In this triptych, three scenes take place in very different kinds of landscapes, that are connected by the appearance of a mysterious object. This object changes the character that finds it and consequently sets off various events within these scenes. It is a story in three parts that plays with the concepts of time and space, and addresses the relation between mankind and nature, technology, and each other.

Ghostly Thoughts (2022) Video triptych. 4K full color, stereo. Loop. These video's were shot in and around a very old derelict village (Dafang) in the P.R. of China, just before it got completely renovated by the government to turn it into a tourist attraction, merging history, art and commerce into a total experience. The protagonist in this triptych, a local woman who has spent her life in the village showed me around these ghostly houses. She couldn't speak and tried to communicate history through gestures and sound.
Sloppy Prophet / Shiny Beast. (2020)
Sculpture / Video installation 4K video, color, stereo. "The Sloppy Prophet walks through the forest in a bathrobe smoking cigars, talking to an old friend on the phone. In the space the Shiny Beast reacts to the protagonist on screen through sound and movements, but we can't exactly understand it's reaction. In this physical / virtual dialogue on some of the issues our Sloppy Prophet is obviously concerned with, his friend sometimes shows us a counter image of our prophet: lost in the dark and lit up by a bright light, like a rabbit caught in the headlights of a fast approaching car." Camera: LeVroi Film & Media, editing: Paul Segers. This work was made possible with the generous support of Gemeente Helmond. The Bullet Head trilogy (2017) Video triptych, HD video, color, stereo.
