The Pump Jack Gang / Firestarter / The Wound. 2022
Sculptural video installation. The three scenes presented in this triptych are all happening in the same environment. The Pump Jack Gang shows a group of businessmen and women roaming through the woods, looking for something, guided by their cellphones that show white screens. There seem to be difficulties along the way while they move toward their mysterious goal. Firestarter shows a person dressed in an anti-heat suit standing in between the pines, lighting a white torch, only to throw it into the woods violently. The Wound shows two persons working on the forest ground, carefully cleaning a spot with brushes and tools. As they continue working, it turns out that this spot is a fleshy wound, and it's starting to bleed heavily. As the video's loop, and the triptych continues to change, different parts of these scenes get combined, new connections arise and a grander narrative evolves. The steel, custom made display hangs in the pines on the locations that was used to shoot Firestarter.
