Towards a New Functionality 2014 "Show Me!", G.A.E.A., Guangzhou, P.R. of China.
Participating Artists: Leila Anderson, Stan Wannet, Rongman Hong, Paul Segers, Xiaopeng Huang, Jia Chen. Towards a New Functionality plays on the 'made in China' concept of production. instead of producing a work myself like usual, I gave a craftsman drawings for a work that he had to execute for me. The drawings were not technical drawings, they were artists sketches, like the ones I usually work from. The carpenter had to figure out what to do with these drawings and what to make of it without any clue or comment from myself. He had to be creative and think like a sculptor to transform the sketches into a 3D sculpture. The drawings and the sculpture were presented in the show accompanied by a text on the concept.
