Splash! 2012 Hoog Water! De stad, de rivier.. Deventer. Exhibition in the public space during the festival: Deventer op stelten.
Splash! was created specifically for this exhibition about the relation between the city (Deventer) and the river. Splash is an architectural model that doesn't refer to any architectural reality, but to the mental and physical option of 'swaying'. The Dutch are known for their water works, intensive landscape planning and attempts to gain control over any given natural situation, which doesn't just shape the country, but also the general mentality. The cabin in the work is a rock/boat like shape suspended between four crane-poles with cables. Counterweights keep the cabin in balance. When the water level rises, the cabin will rise with it. Dimensions: approx 6 x 6 x 3,5 m. Materials: steel, aluminum, wood, polyester. Photo's: Paul Segers |
