Last Transmission from NP 113 2011 "the Arctic Circle Project" Spitsbergen.
These works were created during the Arctic Circle Residency Project that is based on a sailing vessel going around Spitsbergen. I took a large case with some installation materials and props, and reacted on the different landing locations to what the environment had to offer in both landscape as well as cultural heritage sites. 'Last Transmission from NP 113' was inspired by the story of the Russian mobile research station 'NP 1' in 1937. This scientific endeavor from the north pole history has been replaced by halfhearted attempts from the character in my settings to engage in more dubious enterprises. Photo's: Kevin Cooley. Video: Dawn Johnston, Saeed Farouky. Materials: case, ski's, steel, flag, rope, aluminum, tarp, camouflage netting, ghilie suit, flares, polyester film, helium canister. |
